Thanh Phuong is an Environmental and Social (E&S) Manager at Mekong Capital, where she oversees both fund-level and investee-level environmental and social governance. At the fund level, Phuong implements and continuously improves the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), ensures the Funds maintain their E&S commitments, and upholds E&S good practices and standards). At the investee level, she ensures E&S risks and impacts are identified, assessed, and managed throughout the investment cycle through pre-investment E&S screening and due diligence, post-investment E&S monitoring and engagement, and provision of technical support to help investees achieve their E&S commitments and objectives. Her work is vital in managing and mitigating E&S risks associated with the Funds’ investments, protecting and creating added value for the businesses.
With over 15 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), Phuong has excelled in both execution and management roles. Phuong started her career at multinational corporations, including PETRONAS and Samsung Electronics, gaining hands-on experience in EHS execution. Phuong then advanced to Managing Consultant at ERM, where she led Environmental and Social Due Diligence, and implemented Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) services. In this role, Phuong not only managed the team but also directly contributed to the successful conduct of clients’ E&S activities across various industries. Phuong is well-versed in local laws and regulations and international standards such as the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, and ADB Safeguard Policy Statement.
