Objectives

  • We are looking for a Senior Investment Associate for a new climate fund at Mekong Capital.
  • The Fund aims to cultivate a thriving, biodiverse ecosystem in the Mekong region via sustainable land use and regenerative farming practices where farmers experience secured and fulfilled lives.
  • Responsibilities include fostering partnerships with local people and companies with scalable impact models that provide nature-based solutions to address climate change.

Key Accountabilities

The Senior Investment Associate is accountable for large projects as assigned by the Hiring Manager or independently accountable for an ongoing set of results that require project management and ownership. These projects would typically require the Senior Associate to ensure that the objectives/criteria/deliverables of the project are clear, that all of the relevant people are aligned around those, that there is a clear action plan, and hold the relevant people are accountable to the action plan.

The key initial results expected in the first 12 months of employment include:

  • Actively participating in the design of an investment strategy for the Impact Fund
  • Documenting the strategy in the form of a private placement memorandum and fund application documents for grants and concessional funding.
  • Supporting the Hiring Manager with necessary coordination to generate a pipeline of potential investments for the Impact Fund

The key results expected after Fund formation and fundraising include:

  • Supporting the Hiring Manager with various large projects to cause the investee company to implement Vision Driven Investing as a pathway to generating exceptional investment returns and impact targets of Impact Fund.

Key Requirements

  • Experience: Has a foundational understanding of the agriculture sector in the Lower Mekong Region, including trade flows and supply value chains, existing regulatory framework, ownership structures, cooperatives of smallholder farmers, and investments in this sector. Approximately 4 years of a combination of non-profit, private equity, strategy consulting, or investment in the agriculture sector.
  • Language: Fluent in English, and preferably also fluent in Vietnamese. (Vietnamese is not a requirement.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills; clear and direct communication, proactively addressing issues, and speaking up promptly when needed. A skilled listener who understands diverse perspectives communicates insights clearly and instills confidence in stakeholders, including potential Investors and Partners, showcasing expertise and value in investments.
  • Management Skills: Strong stakeholder and project management skills. Directly engage with teams and stakeholders to drive results.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Mindset: Collaborative and results-oriented with natural curiosity.
